After we did our calculations for the WeatherActive, we came to SimpleScores of 9.8 for traction, 9.2 for longevity, and 9.5 for handling – all very respectable results, if you ask us.

Next up on our list is the Bridgestone DriveGuard Plus, a premium all-season tire that offers the peace of mind of run-flat technology. We gave the DriveGuard Plus a solid 9.9 thanks to its asymmetric tread pattern and stable, rigid tread face that all deliver enhanced cornering, braking, control, and steering response. At the end of the day, this is a Grand Touring tire that delivers consistent year-round traction, a quiet, luxurious ride, great handling ability and excellent wear properties.

3. Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate: Best UHP tire

We haven’t mentioned a UHP tire yet, and the Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate is one of our favorites, as this is a tire that you can depend on for jaw-dropping performance. The Eagle Exhilarate features wide circumferential grooves and a five-rib asymmetric tread pattern along with a high-silica tread formulation that boosts wet-weather grip and wear properties. The tread is also designed for slippery conditions with sipes and lateral/angled grooves, enough for a SimpleScore of 9.9 for traction. Cornering, braking distances, and steering response are everything you’d expect as well, thanks to reinforced shoulders, a stiff tread face that resists inertia and G-forces of cornering, and a footprint that’s optimized to keep more rubber in contact with the road for a handling score of 9.9. The internal construction of the Eagle Exhilarate includes a polyester casing, lightweight, high-tensile steel belts, and two layers of polyamide reinforcement plies – Goodyear offers a 45,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for this tire, and SimpleTire calculated a SimpleScore of 8.6 for longevity. That’s a real plus when you consider that most UHP and summer tires don’t even offer a mileage warranty at all.
