Honda Accord-crosstour Tires
The Crosstour can be thought of as either a wagon version of the Accord or a subcompact SUV that’s the next size down from the Pilot. The Crosstour was based on a stretched Accord platform, with either 4-cyl or V6 power and AWD; after model year 2012, “Accord” was dropped from the name and it was just known as the Crosstour in an attempt to give it its own separate identity. Later iterations of the Crosstour were powered by a more powerful V6, but turned in mediocre fuel economy with 20 mpg city/23 mpg highway for FWD models and 19 mpg city/22 mpg highway for AWD models.
The Crosstour was something of an anomaly in the Honda lineup. While technically a crossover, it didn’t have extra ground clearance or a ruggedized suspension like you’d expect. Its hatchback design offered way more cargo space than the Accord sedan, but it was panned in the automotive press for its oddball styling and while it did have more space available, it wasn’t as much as you might expect with a bigger, boxier crossover or SUV. Despite having the build quality, refinement, and great driving qualities you’d expect with a Honda, the Crosstour was discontinued in 2015 due to slow sales.
Here at SimpleTire, we’ve figured out the best Honda Accord Crosstour tires, including all-season, all-weather, and winter tires ranked Best/Great/Good according to our SimpleScore system. Ready? Let’s go in for a closer look:
1. Bridgestone Weatherpeak - Best All-Weather tire
The Bridgestone Weatherpeak is a versatile all-weather tire option for your Honda Accord Crosstour. If you’ve ever had to deal with deep snow and rough winter weather, you’ve probably already discovered the hard way that most all-season tires just aren’t going to reliably get you through anything more than a light coat of snow or slush on the pavement. All-weather tires are designed along much the same lines as all-season tires but with more of an emphasis on traction in winter weather. With those performance targets in mind, Bridgestone designed the Weatherpeak’s tread with a thick pattern of sipes, the hair-thin slits that multiply the biting edges that can allow a tire to chew through snow and slush. While most tread features lose their effectiveness as a tire wears, Bridgestone’s sipes are a full-depth 3D design that keeps boosting your winter traction even as the miles pile up. In addition, the Weatherpeak is designed with special “snow vices” grooves that trap and retain snow to build snow-to-snow friction. As you might expect, the Bridgestone Weatherpeak has the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certification for severe winter service. On the test track and in real-world experience, winter braking distances are as much as 30 feet shorter than the competition’s tires. We did the math, tabulated the results, and gave the Bridgestone Weatherpeak a SimpleScore of 9.7 for traction. Steering response and cornering are also favorable points with this tire; the Weatherpeak’s SimpleScore of 9.5 for handling comes from its rubber formulation and tread features. Road manners, steering response, and cornering ability are all superb, across a wide range of changing weather conditions. Bridgestone backs the Weatherpeak with a 70,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty, the kind of warranty coverage that’s worthy of a SimpleScore of 9.8 for longevity.
2. Goodyear Winter Command - Best Winter tire
Now we come to our pick for Best Winter Tire, the Goodyear Winter Command, the kind of dependable winter tire you can count on to get through the snow, slush, and muck of winter driving – the kind of roads where an all-season tire is just not going to be capable of safely getting the job done. The Winter Command is designed with a combination of 3D zigzag sipes and a directional tread pattern with sweeping lateral grooves and wide longitudinal grooves, for tenacious winter grip. When an ice storm comes through and turns your roads slicker than a skating rink, the Winter Command is pre-drilled so that a tire tech can easily install studs (remember that studded tires are not legal in all states and only during certain months in others – check your state laws). Unsurprisingly, the Goodyear Winter Command is certified with the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol for severe winter service. After totaling our results, we give the Goodyear Winter Command an impressive 9.9 SimpleScore for traction. This tire’s braking, cornering, and steering properties are all strong points too (thanks to a stiffer shoulder and solid center rib) – in the handling department, this tire gets a SimpleScore of 9.5. Despite its lack of a treadwear warranty, the Winter Command’s wear properties are also excellent, with a SimpleScore of 9.5 for longevity. Just remember that any winter tire uses a softer, stickier tread compound that will wear prematurely in warmer weather. Manufacturers advise against using any winter tire when temperatures are above 45 degrees F.
These are the best Honda Accord Crosstour tires on the market, there are plenty of other options to consider:
3. Yokohama Avid Ascend LX - Great All-Season tire
Here at SimpleTire, we’ve been fans of the Yokohama line for a long time and the Yokohama Avid Ascend LX is no exception. The Avid Ascend LX is designed for excellent grip year-round with a system of circumferential grooves, lateral grooves, angled grooves, and wavy 3D sipes, bringing home a SimpleScore of 8.6 for traction. Treadwear properties are exceptional with the Avid Ascend LX; it features Yokohama’s L-2 polymer blend tread compound for wear resistance and a wider, flatter footprint for more even treadwear and distribution of vehicle weight. It’s hard to beat an 85,000 mile warranty – we give the Avid Ascend LX a 9.7 for longevity. All those tread features (along with large, reinforced shoulder blocks and a solid center rib) work together for steering response that’s sharp and correct, confident cornering, and great braking – we give the Avid Ascend LX a SimpleScore of 8.7 for traction.
