  • Yokohama Advan Sport V107

For drivers of performance sedans, coupes, and sporty crossovers who want to get the most out of their vehicles’ handling, cornering, steering response, and braking ability, ultra-high-performance (UHP) or summer tires are the way to go. There are plenty of all-season tires that deliver good handling and sharp steering response along with year-round versatility, but they can’t quite get that final measure of performance that summer or UHP tires can offer. Yokohama has decades of experience in the motorsports world, developing tires for the track or for rallies that can handle the extreme demands of racing and race vehicles. For their Advan Sport series of tires, Yokohama has collaborated with automakers to design UHP-summer tires that complement the weight, power, torque, center of gravity, and handling properties of today’s performance vehicles by using their experience in the motorsports world to produce the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 that can deliver a combination of thrilling performance, white-knuckle handling, and braking. Let’s go in and get a closer look at this outstanding tire with this Yokohama Advan Sport V107 review

    Features and Benefits

    Yokohama Advan Sport V107

Here are some of the great design features and innovations that make the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 such a great value and strong prospect for drivers of high-powered sports sedans, sports coupes, and crossovers who are looking for a balance of comfort and performance:

    • The asymmetric tread is divided into two segments: inboard side for dry-weather traction, outboard side for wet-weather grip, and enhanced cornering
    • Variable-width circumferential and angled grooves are designed to resist hydroplaning by evacuating standing water from the tire’s contact patch
    • Silent Sipes enhance wet-weather grip and tread rigidity with hundreds of hair-thin slits, tuned to help suppress ambient noise Yokohama’s Matrix Ply Body Structure means that the tire is lightweight, and it offers buyers great high-speed stability Rayon body ply reinforced with two high-tensile steel belts and a single polyamide cap ply at the sidewalls and shoulder for lateral rigidity
    • Tire contact patch is optimized for maximum road contact, enhanced braking and handling performance, and long and even wear properties Tread compound is softer and “stickier” for glue-like adhesion to the pavement High-rigidity shoulder gives the Advan Sport V107 great resistance to tread deformation during hard cornering and high-speed maneuvers

    Pros and Cons

In the case of the Yokohama Advan Sport V107, this is a tire where the pros definitely outweigh the cons:

    PROS:

    • Outstanding braking and cornering performance at high speeds
    • Tenacious grip on the pavement for steering response that’s quick and precise
    • Low noise at highway speed
    • Dependable, consistent grip on wet or dry pavement

    CONS:

    • Not suitable for temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit
    • No limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty

In the world of high-performance vehicles, nothing can match up to the braking, steering response, cornering ability, and traction of a summer or ultra-high-performance tire. In the case of the Yokohama Advan Sport V107, Yokohama’s years in the motorsports world inform this tire’s design and ensure that it’s up to the task of all-out performance for sports sedans, coupes, and crossovers.

Are you familiar with SimpleTire’s SimpleScore system? SimpleScore is a rating method developed by our team to give drivers a quick glance at a tire’s strengths and weaknesses. We look at a tire’s specs, information from the manufacturer, customer reviews, and other data points to process them all into 1-10 scores for the categories of traction, handling, and longevity, along with an overall average SimpleScore. In the case of the Yokohama Advan Sport V107, the SimpleScore ratings look like this:

    Yokohama Advan Sport V107

    • Traction: 8.7
    • Handling: 8.7
    • Longevity: 7.7
    • Overall average SimpleScore: 8.3

Pushed hard into a turn, the Advan Sport V107 tracks like a slot car; its cornering ability is confident and free of vices, with little tendency towards understeer. It can be easy to kick out the rear end of an RWD vehicle around a corner with a hard throttle application, but the Yokohama comes back into line again, like it’s on rails. Braking performance is confident and decisive, and road manners are composed and civilized at high speed. The steering response is light and quick without ever being overly sensitive and touchy, and ride quality is a bit on the firm side but controlled.

It’s true that the Advan Sport V107 isn’t an all-season tire, but it’s not designed as such; summer and UHP tires like this Yokohama use a softer tread compound that’s designed for good glue-like adhesion to the pavement, but it will stiffen up and lose traction on colder days, making for a potentially dangerous situation. Yokohama advises against using these tires if daily temperatures are below 40-45 degrees F. It’s also true that the Advan Sport V107 isn’t covered by a limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty; most summer and UHP tires aren’t, since they’re intended for seasonal use.

Compared to the stock tires the Advan Sport V107 provided far more grip on my GR86. On stock tires there was always a chance to spin the tires when coming out of the corners if too much gas was applied. The Yokohamas just provided the grip necessary to properly accelerate out of the corners. These tires are also far quieter and more comfortable than the stock tires. I am enjoying the car more with these tires on.
