For drivers everywhere, all-season tires are a go-to choice for their versatility; they’re a jack-of-all-trades solution that drivers count on for long wear, year-round performance, a quiet and forgiving ride, and predictable handling. That’s why, year in and year out, they’re the single biggest-selling category of tires in America.
Considering the popularity of all-season tires, it’s not a surprise that they’re available at every price point, from expensive premium brand tires to lesser-known budget tires. In most cases, price is directly tied to quality; it’s a caveat emptor, “you get what you pay for” situation but that’s starting to change as many affordable all-season tires now are available with the kind of features, quality, and performance that used to only be found on more expensive premium tires.
That’s the case with the Thunderer Mach 1 Plus tire. Thunderer is part of the American Omni Trading Company and checks many of the boxes you might be looking for in a performance-oriented all-season tire for sedans, minivans, coupes, and crossovers.
Ready to hear all the details on the tire? Let’s go in for a closer look with this Thunderer Mach 1 Plus review:
Features and Benefits
Here are a few of the premium-level features and innovations that make the Thunderer Mach 1 Plus a real standout when it comes to performance and value:
- Advanced rubber compound is designed for long wear and excellent traction on wet or dry pavement
- The contact patch is optimized with high-angle tread blocks that ensure more rubber in contact with the road for even wear, dependable traction and handling, and shorter braking distances,
- A system of four wide circumferential grooves, angled and lateral grooves help to fight any tendency toward hydroplaning on wet roads by channeling water away from the tire’s contact patch
- The tread pitch is randomized and computer-tuned to negate certain frequencies and resonances, muting road noise at highway speed
- Solid center rib gives a boost to straight-line stability at highway speed, road manners, and steering response
- Large, reinforced shoulder blocks encourage accurate cornering by resisting tread squirm and deformation during hard maneuvers or cornering
- Backed by a 70,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
Pros and Cons
So, is this Thunderer tire the right choice for your ride and budget? Before you decide, let’s take a look at the tire’s pros and cons.
PROS:
- Great performance and price
- Traction on wet or dry roads is confident and predictable
- Backed by a 70,000 mile tread life warranty
- Ride quality is quiet and comfortable
CONS:
- Should not be used in moderate to severe winter weather conditions as the tire is not Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified
- Not good off the pavement
SimpleTire’s view on Thunderer Mach 1 Plus tires
If you’re not acquainted with SimpleScore, that’s the system that the SimpleTire team has developed to give you a quick at-a-glance idea of a tire’s strengths and weaknesses. We look at specs, reviews, and other data points and then come up with a numerical score from 1 to 10 for the categories of traction, handling, and longevity, along with an overall average SimpleScore for any given tire. For the Thunderer Mach 1 Plus, the SimpleScore ratings are as follows:
Thunderer Mach 1 Plus
- Traction: 7.6
- Handling: 8.0
- Longevity: 9.8
- Overall average SimpleScore: 8.4
As you can see, those are some pretty incredible numbers for performance and value, especially when you consider the price point of a tire like the Thunderer Mach 1 Plus. Wet-weather traction is secure and predictable, with confident braking and accurate handling for lane changes and cornering. Dry-weather handling and traction are even better, with little tendency toward understeer or oversteer (if not quite up to the standards of a UHP tire).
On the highway, the Thunderer Mach 1 Plus is stable and steady as far as straight-line road manners, with a steering response that’s light and immediate without being overly touchy or sensitive. Ride quality stays comfortable and composed even on rough or grooved pavement, and noise levels are surprisingly low (although the Thunderer might get a little louder on some pavement surfaces). Thunderer’s rubber compound also does a great job of heat dissipation even after hours on the highway, which is important since heat buildup is the enemy of any tire’s tread formulation and internal design.
A 70,000 mile warranty is not just a strong point – it’s pretty incredible for a tire that comes in at this price, making it a great value as well as a solid performer. It’s our opinion that the Thunderer Mach 1 Plus would make a great choice for a wide variety of sedans, minivans, coupes, and crossovers, especially for an older vehicle where you might be looking for a dependable set of tires that won’t clean out a checking account.

they are bald with the thread showing through
I really like these tires but only got 25,000 miles out of them before completely worn out. I guess you get what you pay for. They were fairly inexpensive but are in no way rated for 70,000 miles. I have been a mechanic for 25 years and know that tires never last what they say they will but typically at least half the tread life rating and these didn't come close. I would have purchase them again if they lasted longer.
I have driven right around 7,000 miles since my purchase and honestly I will never by a top name brand tire again. For the price I paid for the set I would have paid double for a top name brand. As for me Simpletire will be my choice for tires.
Muy buen precio y calidad de verdad estoy muy satisfecho les agradezco por su calidad
Like the tires. They ride well and look good. Haven't used them in wet/winter conditions yet, but I expect them to perform well.
We live in the Rocky Mountains and it is winter and these tires perform exceptionally well.
