Nokian Tires manufactures automobile tires in Nokia, Finland, and Dayton, Ohio. They design and produce high-quality winter, summer, and all-season tires for passenger vehicles, SUVs, and vans. Furthermore, they are one of the world's leading producers of heavy special tires.
Studded winter tires are most effective on snow and ice-covered roads that have not yet been thoroughly plowed. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 Studded is a studded winter tire which is built for the harsh winter conditions encountered by light trucks. You can depend on these tires on icy roadways as well as snow-covered places. It is a studded tire that is designed for use on light trucks and SUVs.
However, is it the best tire for your car and your budget? Let's take a look at a review of Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 studded to see if it's the right tire for you.
Features and Benefits
Drivers who frequently travel on rural roads and roads that are partially covered with snow and ice need studded tires, as studs give more traction because they pierce the ice and snow, which keeps you secure and in control. Unpaved and unplowed areas are best for using studded tires. To make the best choice possible regarding them, let's discover more about them.
- Great winter weather traction: The precise, directional tread pattern and long-lasting winter rubber compound improve traction in snow, ice, and cold temperatures. Long-lasting compound components enhance rubber flexibility in subfreezing conditions, providing reliable cold weather performance. Tire's increased biting edges and zigzag groove pattern enable it to firmly grasp the road surface, improving traction in snow and ice.
- Reduced risk of hydroplaning: Angled lateral grooves in the tread help to avoid hydroplaning by distributing water and slush from the footprint, significantly increasing rainy weather driving performance.
- Solid controllability: A strategic tread pattern provides constant surface contact thanks to the continuous center rib. It enables the tire to increase the stability and steering response of the vehicle. As a result, the structure is protected from the driving pressure and the tire responds to the driver's orders more quickly and precisely. With additional biting edges, the shoulder block pattern with the siping placement securely grips the road surface, improving the cornering ability. The siping pattern enhances braking performance as well. The sipes considerably reduce the braking distance by creating friction between the tire and the road.
- Tread wear indicators: There are tread wear indicators on the center rib. They provide a percentage representation of the wear rate. The indications, which are percentages, show how much tread is still on the tire and deteriorate at the same rate as the tread. You can follow the treadwear over the tread area with them.
- Increased durability: The special Aramid sidewalls of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 Studded improve the driving durability. These sidewalls protect the tire from outside harm while also boosting load carrying capacity.
- Studded tires: Stainless steel studs decrease corrosion on salty roads and increase tire’s life span while also improving traction on ice and snow.
Pros and Cons
So, have you found the ideal winter tire? Let’s first analyze its pros and cons before forming an opinion.
- Winter tire tread pattern includes several features to improve grip in cold conditions
- Angled lateral grooves reduce the risk of hydroplaning by removing water and slush from the tread
- Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified for use in mild to severe winter conditions
- Central rib enhances controllability
- Tread wear indicators to show the tread wear rate
- Stainless steel studs improve traction and tread life
- Better fuel efficiency and built using environmentally friendly materials and engineering processes
- Aramid sidewalls to increase durability
The Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 Studded tire might be improved in various areas despite having all of these features and advantages, such as:

- Cannot be used everywhere due to being pre-pinned with studs
- Could be noisier than some other tires
- No mileage warranty

Great traction this is the only brand winter tires we use
This is the first winter tire that could handle the weight of my truck without wearing the tread out in one season. I use dedicated winter and AT's between winter and the rest of the seasons and typically the second year my winter tires were getting questionable. This is the first tire that I've only had wire l about 20% wear after the first year.

Best winter tire I have ever used. Living in NE Ohio we have ice snow deep snow even 50° days. These tires are great with the crazy mix of winter weather we have even with the warm days the next may bring a ice storm so I leave them on. They do show they are a winter tire on the warm days and feel soft but hold up very well. Will definitely buy again when worn out. The studs don't make too much noise on dry asphalt and you don't hear them at all in snow and ice. They are very good in deep snow also. So far I have about 25,000 miles on them at about 75% tread just be warned they are a winter tire and should be removed once it's above 40°.
Coming from a pro driver in MONTANA... I have put 10s or 100s of thousands of miles on every major winter tire. These are legendary tires. If you're contemplating getting studded or not, GET THE STUDDED. That being said I did prefer the LT2 to the LT3 because the outter set of lugs have a little but too much turn in bite at highway speeds. Very polite tires quiet even with studs compared to other studded tires. Amazing at shedding water in the slush and wet too. I can not recommend enough.
I can go places in 2wd where I did trouble in 4wd old tires. It is too early to say about treadwear.
Great studded snow tires. Great price and in stock.
Great studded tires for my truck in NW MT. Really do the job on the ice.
These tires grip snow and ice and give you confidence in winter conditions. Best winter tires I've ever owned!
